The following course will be run by Kinvara Sustainable Living from the Burrenbeo Resource Centre  in Kinvara village. The course is aimed at beginners, and improving gardeners. There will be theory sessions looking into the plant and soil science, as well as the common sense that goes into growing food in the west of Ireland. There will be a practical morning for the vegetable growing course in Doorus Orchard community garden.

This course will cover: Siting a fruit garden and preparing the site. By planting bare root plants now a lot of money can be saved. Tree fruits- apples, pears, plums and cherries, choosing varieties, pollination partners, sourcing plants and planting. Bush fruits-raspberries, currants, gooseberries and loganberries etc, staking options, netting, harvesting and freezing. Strawberry growing in the soil, tunnels, pots and containers,
varieties, harvesting and jam making. Detailed course notes, tea/coffee and home baking provided. Course cost for the 4 classes is €55, concession €45. Concession rate applies to those in receipt of social welfare payments and members of Burrenbeo Trust. Book together with the vegetable growing class and save €5.
