BURRENBEO OBJECTIVES

Burrenbeo (‘the living Burren‘) is a multidimensional resource for the Burren region. Its function is to promote and support the sustainable management and use of the unique landscape and heritage of the Burren, in an accessible, inclusive and effective manner. Burrenbeo’s primary activities include:

1. Information provision – through the Burrenbeo website www.burrenbeo.com, multilingual fact sheets, image galleries and other multimedia materials;
2. Education – through community-based heritage education and training initiatives, multimedia materials, and on-line educational resources;
3. Marketing – providing an integrated marketing and promotional facility for Burren service and product providers through the Burren Business Network, Burrenbeo website and a wide range of local, national and international media outlets
4. Retail – showcasing the best of the Burren’s artisan art, craft, and food producers through its Kinvara centre and the www.burrenbeo.com on-line shop.
5. Research – Commissioning and supporting practical, Burren-related research projects

The Burrenbeo resource centre is based in Main Street, Kinvara, Co. Galway. It contains a café/gallery space, a Burren showcase retail area and a multidimensional information point for the Burren. Burrenbeo operates on a not-for profit basis. Any profits generated through Burrenbeo are re-invested into the activities outlined above and into local community-based conservation initiatives.

Burrenbeo's stated objectives are:

1. To promote education and awareness with regard to the Burren, and in particular to acknowledge and support the positive contribution of the local farming community to the rich and diverse heritage of the region.

2. To contribute to improved visitor management and enhanced visitor experience in the Burren, through the provision of stimulating, high quality, globally accessible information.

3. To help promote the Burren as a haven for Ecotourism - 'ecologically and socially responsible nature-based tourism that fosters environmental appreciation and understanding' while contributing to the local economy.
